We're still in need to make reservations for the first night of our trip and the last night of our trip, which will be some way between here and where we have our reservations.

Maybe we can get this done in the next couple weeks.

So... today was set aside to get some order into our arrangements. We have rooms booked, 10 rooms. 10 couples or individuals coming along.

But, there are always snags in the works. I pulled up the condos we had, and set about matching people and rooms. Not easy and in the 11 months that we have had this going on, not one person contacted me to say they wanted any particular arrangements.

If you happen to think that works in your favor as a trip planner, it does not. Lesson learned - match people to rooms as they sign up, not ever after the fact. I had one group of three who told me today they are actually a group of four and need three bedrooms. They were originally a group of 3 slotted into a bedroom and a loft.

So why didn't I match people to rooms as they came aboard? Because the rooms came second. But that still could have been avoided. I just checked tour prices and there is very little out there anymore. And the costs are ... astronomical.

As tempted as I am to say "never again" will I step into this role, who am I kidding? Next time, however, it will not be something I put together because I think "it will be fun" for a bunch of friends to get together for a spectacular event. There will be a cost to join in, and that cost will include all the work it takes to arrange.

@tikini I feel for you and I personally would not volunteer for stuff like this because of issues like that and worse. Already doing it for my own personal family with my husband being so picky, it can be a pain, much less you doing it for all those people.

I am excited for it. We were not able to get any rooms within the path of the eclipse and we are a couple hours away, so we will have to drive to the location. Well, we could have gotten a room within the path of the eclipse, but that would have cost us over $1K at some Super 8 type deal. I don't think so.

Nonetheless, when you're there, I'm sure it'll be great. I hate having to learn some lessons.

Hence, I will not be a returning soccer mom in high school from the lessons I've learned these past 3 yrs of middle school/junior high soccer mom stuff.

Our room is already booked for 2 nights - the night before and after the eclipse.

The best place, which is I believe Douglass, WY, we can't get to because everything has been booked for so long, including campsites, but we will be in its path in Idaho, as that's closer to us than WY.

We still need to do hotel reservations for before we get to ID and after.

@ligemst Luckily the path of the eclipse is going to touch the tri-tips of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, only a 1-1/2 hour drive northeast for me. We plan to take the whole day, drive up early, GPS as close as we can to the total eclipse path, and just park the car. We might find a locale in Tennessee as well, depending upon clouds and weather.

@tarrador That's great. We are taking 2 days to drive up to the area because it is just too far from where we live (the Phoenix, AZ area). I'm excited for it. This will be the last eclipse like this while the kids are minors and the next will be in their 20s and to get us all together will be a challenge.

They will have to miss a little bit of school, but I think worth it. Hopefully little to no clouds for all of us.

@ligemst Enjoy! I just happen to live right in the belt of good viewing of the eclipse on the west coast. Not sure if that's lucky or unlucky. The view will be cool, but we're also expecting to have insane traffic, etc that week. Maybe I should just camp at work that week so I'm not late?

Still trying to figure out how to use this site. But hey, here is a good short term goal to practice on. There is room for one more couple or individual to come along. We have 10 rooms and nine are filled. We will be watching the total eclipse of the sun from the Grand Tetons.
