My goal for this year is to go and stay in Barcelona for at least 3 months. Somehow this city attracts me, and I have never been there. I'm a dancer and the dance scene in Barcelona is incredible, so that's the main reason for me to learn Spanish. I want to be able to communicate with the local people and of corse it's important if I want to be involved in the dance community fully, I know that most people there speak Catalan but for now I will start with Spanish and I heard that it is sort of a similar language and Spanish will be more useful when I will travel the world! Wish me best of luck guys, because from my experiences leaning language is not my strong side.

@deluna Thanks. This sounds fun, I'm not really like to watch commercials. I watch the same movie in Spanish over and over on background, but you are right it's too much new words at once, so I will try to watch some short movies or cartoons up to 10 min. Thanks for advice.

Using Duolingo for this goal. Reached 11% proficiency with it so far. Trying to learn 3 / 4 words every day and duolingo has a good app to keep you on track.

I would recommend the book Forever Fluent by Gabriel Wyner! That's how I got my level of Spanish from Intermediate to fully fluent (and even went from having a french accent to none). The technique transfers over to other languages as well 🙂.

My son is in a bilingual daycare and I really want to be able to support him in retaining his spanish skills when he no longer is eligible for that program. We live in Texas too and his half sister is from Mexico so I want to help facilitate good communication between them. Here is hoping! Duolingo seems like something to at least get some vocabulary down.

I really want to get over my apprehension in trying to speak the language since my reading comprehension is improving. Been trying to improve by using Spanish radio to get better at listening, too.

Just joined Duolingo for this purpose. It's a super helpful website for learning new languages.

You can type any date in plain English like in 3 weeks or next month.
You can also type in recurring due date like every day, every week and every month.
