The line of credit is probably what is bothering me most at this point. Once other things are paid, I will have more money to put towards it but it will still take time.

I had put in a request to increase the credit limit of Credit Card #1 (only wanted to increase slightly) to have a little bit more wiggle room when transferring the balance of Credit Card #2.

I received a message saying I needed to call the bank as they required more info. It turns out that my last increase was less than six months ago so I cannot be pre-approved just yet. I should find out next month whether it is approved and hopefully I can do the transfer then. It would also be really nice if I could receive a special rate but I'm not sure if that will happen.

Ironically, after this, I received an offer to increase the credit limit of Credit Card #2!

Well, Credit Card #2 and Line of Credit are not good at the moment at all (in the sense of almost no credit available on either), and I'm expecting another over limit fee for Credit Card #2, unless one of my credits goes through before the interest hits.

I've also not really been able to follow my budget when it comes to the amounts I was hoping to dedicate to credit cards (which may have been too high anyway). I even hoped to get Credit Card #1 down to a certain amount this month but won't be able to. I'm just paying what I can right now - especially this month with all its extra expenses - and I'll take a closer look again next month. I'm still thinking of ways to try to have an extra income amount coming in.

Right now though, I don't think I will be able to accomplish this goal before the end of 2018.

When considering getting the balance on Credit Card #1 lower in order to have more room to transfer balance of Credit Card #2, I was thinking my balance would still be quite high. Then I remembered today that I will be receiving a credit of over $200 for an item I returned, so this was encouraging.

I've been tracking my expenses since the start of the month again.

Yesterday I plugged my upcoming income and expenses (I think I might have missed a few smaller ones) on a website and my total expenses exceeded my income. There are at least three extra expenses this month (once-a-year type things) so that plays a part. I have to see where I might be able to cut and as much as I hate to say it, I might have to rely on my credit card for at least one of these expenses.

I've decided I will return the boots. Although they seem to be of quality, the sole seems good and I am curious about the warmth and waterproof features of them, I'm not sure enough about them (comfort and look) to keep them for the price.

Yesterday though, I felt the left side of my foot a bit irritated (rubbing) while wearing backup boots #2, and I think it was because of the first time they got wet. By the time I got home, my socks were wet and feet were cold. It made it tempting to just give the new boots a chance. I've read that they were a little snug for some at first but then molded to the foot and were fine afterward, but once I take the tag off and wear them outside, there's no turning back and I just don't know if they'll be better after.

I keep checking to see if the other boots I was considering are available but no luck so far. I've sent a message to customer service to see when they might be back in stock. Until then, or for the rest of the winter, I think I can get by.

I received the sample deodorant and I'm not sure about it yet. Only tried it twice, but the second day, I thought I smelled some B.O. :S

I'm trying to at least note my spending again since I received my last pay.

I feel pretty broke. Next month should be better income-wise but in reality, all I see lately are more expenses. And I feel bad whenever I talk this way because I don't even have the expenses some other people do. If it weren't for debt, I would have more than enough.

When putting on backup boots #2 today, they seemed almost fully dry (surprisingly). I started to feel bad and like I could have made do. Then I received a notification that new boots had shipped. I could always return them if I wanted to, but I do still need winter boots.

I still haven't officially restarted a bible reading plan.

I am still considering doing the New Testament first, instead of the chronological plan, but I don't know if I would be getting the full picture by doing that. I did find an interesting plan though, the 5 x 5 x 5 New Testament Reading Plan. http://www.navigators.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/navtool-newtestament.pdf
My only hesitation is whether I can start anytime or not. I would like to start the New Testament from the beginning but would be out of order if I follow the plan, unless I disregard the months.

I am trying to find a journal to use to track my thoughts and questions but haven't found the right one yet. There is one I like but it is based on a beginning to end plan. I might just end up getting a blank journal and formatting it to my liking.

There is an upcoming community shredding event but not in or near my hometown. The timing is both good and bad. It is good because it is coming right up and would be an incentive for me to get as much done as I can. But it's not so good because I thought it was on a day off and it turns out it isn't.

I don't know if I can make it work but I would really hate to miss the opportunity. I can't seem to find something similar where I am.

Earlier this week, I was searching for an important document in bags of paper. There was so much paper and it wasn't even close to the full amount there is. It was a little overwhelming and then the state of everything afterward just seemed worse.

I started thinking that I might have to be ruthless with my paper. There was a time many years ago when I purged this way and felt proud of myself, but for the most part, this is a tough area for me.

The bottom line is that realistically, it would not be possible to go through each piece of paper if I ever hope to accomplish this goal. I almost certainly never would (and I'm not sure this was ever really my intention if I think about it. So what was I hoping to do with it all?) and have to trust that if something is important enough, it will come back to me.

I started thinking about what I could do to purge in bulk because that's really the only way. I'd still have to sift through the paper but quickly, and keep any obviously important documents while chucking the rest.

To avoid accumulating more paper, I should have a notebook for all the scribbles. I've thought about this before but somehow it has never worked or been consistently implemented, maybe because it happens in different places at different times, but probably more because I would worry about what someone would think if they came across it.

I really need to reclaim my space. I would still have boxes with other things to go through, but if I can eliminate the paper, I think it would help. I really want to have fewer belongings - more what I actually need and use and enjoy.

My idea was to find a way to have the large amount of paper shredded. I will start doing some research and making calls to see if I can aim for a date.

@ExplorerSoul I can relate. I keep thinking if I can figure out a better way to handle incoming and new paper as it arrives I won't get stuck in catch-up mode again. Needless to say I'm still struggling with this.

I have an inbox that I'm supposed to empty weekly but it's already been over a month. Also the amount of schoolwork coming home seems never ending and I have absolutely no idea how to even approach that. So I throw it all in a box for her to go through when she's older. The boxes are mounting though. There has to be a better solution.

@aenea I think paper clutter is one of the more challenging areas for many people in general. It is easy to accumulate and very difficult to go through. And like you, I think there needs to be a way to prevent new paper from coming in.

Does her school work need to be kept? Is it more like special projects?

@aenea Sentimental items can be very difficult to part with. My suggestion would be to think of what she may want to look back on when she is older. If there are any art projects, maybe they can be featured in the home for a while, then switched out (unless they are really special and worth keeping). With other things, I always find taking pictures can help. It is still preserved in some way, which makes letting go a bit easier.

@aenea Anya is in kindergarten, and I just spent FOUR HOURS going through half a year's homework trying to decide what to keep. I'm getting better about it, though. Now I set aside the stuff I want to keep as it comes in and pitch the rest. I may need to sort the collection at some point; I used to save literally every scrap of paper she'd scribbled on, and eventually our house will get too small for even my vetted collection. But I don't have time to do even weekly inboxes as of late, so I'm trying to sort as it comes in.

@aenea I bought a filing cabinet. Then set aside 1 hour a day until I'd either filed, shredded or tossed all the boxes and piles of paper. Now I have one place that I put my papers and once a week I schedule about 15 min to file, shred or toss what isn't needed. Our printer is on a small desk and I have the filing cabinet under the desk and shredder beside it. Having everything within easy reach makes the task easier. I put new papers on top of the filing cabinet so that's the only place I need to go. Between the shredder and filing cabinet life has become much easier to stay on top of all the paper.

Did a bit of tidying today.

Threw out expired almond oil, oil nail polish and concealer, finished deodorant, exfoliating gel I wasn't using, expired oil of oregano, lint roller that wasn't the best and that I wasn't using, jojoba oil that I was pretty sure was old and had no expiry date.

Will be donating a bible (I felt kind of sad about it as this was one I bought and it actually looked nice as I leafed through it but I had barely used it. I have a new one now and I hope this one can serve another well), two DVDs, a Halloween necklace, a change holder, two insulated mugs and a bra.

This is slightly different from the 'Conquer my clutter' goal, because my clutter extends to my storage unit, etc.

This goal is specifically for my current space which should be a place to rest and recharge, not to house all the stuff that isn't helping me. I'm using the room to a limited degree, mainly to get ready. My more immediate goal is to be able to sleep there again. I could do it today if I wanted but I wouldn't feel comfortable. I don't think having a clear bed but being surrounded by stuff would be conducive to good sleep. It just feels unclean in general.

I've often thought about or tried focusing on one area of the room at a time. It seems logical and yet I'm not sure it has ever really worked for me. But then again, maybe I wasn't doing it right. I'd like to try it again. I've separated the space into five main areas, excluding the closet, and I told myself I could try to dedicate a week to each area (rounding off to six weeks). That said, some weeks are busier than others, some things take longer, sometimes the motivation isn't there, so I've doubled it for more flexibility while still being reasonable. All in all that would be 12 weeks or 3 months.

One of the biggest challenges will be to start and possibly not finish an area, which often seems to happen. And just deciding what to do with certain things. I'm afraid that will slow me down.

So this upcoming week's goal (Week 1) is to try to tackle one side of the room which includes my dresser, etc.

And the main goal for March is to:

1-Get rid of up to five boxes of paper if possible
2-Work on things enough so I am able to use my bed again by the start of April.

I haven't tracked in a while and missed noting some interesting dreams.

Recently, I dreamt that I was driving down a highway in the left lane and I opened my eyes (why were they closed??) just in time to notice a man pushing a landmower down the lane towards me. I was able to swerve in time to miss him but slowed down next to him in a cool fashion, trying to act as if nothing.

I haven't been as good at tracking lately. Bits of what I can remember:

    February 12 (Monday)

I wrote 'in house or apartment. Man strange. Trying to form escape plan.' I remember a path and I don't know if it broke into two, but there were two houses - one on either side - and I was thinking that there was rarely anyone home (I think I was considering these houses as part of the plan).

    February 13 (Tuesday)

I remember some of this one but will skip it for now.

    February 15 (Thursday)

Dreamt that I read a message that contained a word or phrase my boss seemed to mention relating to a specific situation. It said something like 'I'm a fantabulous woman.' I brought it to his attention because I suspected this person of being linked to the situation. I was told by my boss that they didn't want to be involved and were letting the police take care of it.

Something else about McDonald's. I think I got an extra order (I seem to remember it being cheeseburgers).

This was one of those questions I didn't think I would be able to answer easily. But a song came to mind, and I'll go with it.

    Someway, Somehow, by Shaye.

Fill my cup to the brim build myself up from scratch again
Still have wounds to bind I know they'll heal in time
And when tears fill my eyes and all my fears cloud the clear blue skies
There's a light that shines when the night comes clouding my mind

Still find the space to bleed
Still find the strength to believe
    In my darkest hour
    Someway somehow
    Someway somehow

When every sign that we see along the road says no vacancy
We'll find room somewhere and though it seems unfair
There's a reason at hand for every trial we don't understand
To be revealed in time when these doubts stop clouding my mind

    7. Today is your first day at your dream job. You’re so excited you can barely contain yourself. When you arrive at work, you take a minute to look around and appreciate the moment. You can’t believe you actually got this job. Where are you? Why do you value this job so much?

My two thoughts were something related to animals and a company in which I am making a difference and improving lives.

Where am I? I guess it is either a farm or an office (but also on location helping directly). I suppose why I value these 'jobs' is because 1 (animals): I love animals and think it would be good for my wellbeing to care for them and 2 (company): I would feel I am doing something greater than myself, for the good of others and making a difference.

@ExplorerSoul what kinds of animals do you think you'd like to work with?

I know when I first went into biology with dreams of being a vet, I was kind of shocked by how not fuzzy and warm the whole science aspect is. Science has its own allure though and I eventually not only got over it but developed a fascination with biological details. So these days I'd almost rather work with microbes (plankton) than megafauna (whales). And really it's become more about the interdependency and interspecies dynamics for me than anything else.

It's interesting how our interests can take a turn as we learn. Today I realized that I didn't even think about writing when answering the question. Maybe it was the way it was worded. The fact that it was a job and a place I was going to.

I don't know if I would put it in the sense of 'can't stand it' but it does bother me quite a bit when people are inconsiderate. I think in general I am very considerate (sometimes too much) but other times, I could be more.

I've been thinking about my skincare routine more lately because my skin has gone through periods of being worse than it has in a while. I felt like a teenager again! It seems to have calmed down again now, as it did last weekend actually, but there have been days when it hasn't looked good - more redness and breakouts and more concealer.

I was thinking about trying to make a simple moisturizer and was reading about some oils. I actually didn't realize that jojoba oil is not completely non-comedogenic (you often hear that it is similar to the natural oils in your skin).

I made a simple cleanser as well and in general, it has been fine.

My skin started to worsen around the time I started using products from a line I've used before and liked, but a different type (before the cleanser I made). I can't say for sure it was due to the products because I've generally been tired and stressed I think, and the skin issues persisted even after I stopped.

I don't think there is anything in the cleanser I made that would cause irritation.

So about the morning routine I had in mind:

-Get up at 6 a.m. - Realistically, I am usually not getting up before 6:30 or starting to get ready before 6:45. I think I need to either get up earlier (around 5:30), or try to simplify my routine as much as possible to eliminate time-wasters.

-Spend few minutes writing down dream(s) - I find that I am often too tired during the week to remember much.

-5 to 15 minutes of morning yoga - This hasn't happened at all. This might be possible with an earlier wake-up time.

-Shower (aim for 5-7 minutes. I usually wash my face before getting in.) - The first day I attempted this, the shower took over 10 minutes so I think I need to adjust my times.

-Get ready (aim for 20 minutes): skincare/makeup, get dressed, dry hair (if necessary), brush teeth, etc. - Again, I probably need to adjust my times.

-Prepare turmeric latte - this happened once.

-Try to leave between 7:15 and 7:30 (ideally 7:15) - I've been trying to at least leave by 7:30 but it's been tough. I always seem to be rushing and there always seems to be more to do.

-Drink water on way to work (if I have this set up) and save latte for work. - Not yet. Have been sipping on instant coffee on my way.

I wanted to attempt my morning routine one day this week but it didn't work out. I woke up late and realized that I may have underestimated the time I would need for things in general. It always seems to take me longer. And if I get home later, the evening routine would be affected, too. I was hoping to do some yoga in the evening since I missed the morning but was too tired.

Will definitely be more of a focus once my debt is paid. I feel I could use this emergency account now.

I had a very small amount leftover from my last pay, and I decided to split it into two for my emergency and long-term accounts.

Received an unexpected tax refund and my immediate thought was to do as I did with the pay difference and put it towards savings. But then, as always seems to be the case with unexpected money, I wondered if I should put it towards my debt, or use it for purchases I was still planning to make. There are always so many things I feel the money can be used for.

In the end, I did put part of it into this account, and the other part towards my long-term goals account. I've started tracking my savings again. It's kind of nice to have something, as small as it may be.

    Starting from scratch

I noticed my paycheck was slightly higher than normal. Although I haven't confirmed yet whether it is an error or an increase and don't want to get my hopes up, I took the difference and divided it so I could contribute a small amount to both my emergency account and long-term goals account. The amounts are minimal but it's a start.

On one of my bank's websites, there was some brief information on saving towards your first home and it inspired me. Obviously with my debt, it would be difficult to focus on this right now but when I am able to, I think I would like to try to save $20,000 in three years or less.

    12-Rich.

    La-a-a-a-a-di-da
    La-a-a-a-a-di-da

If I had a dollar every time that I swore you off
And a twenty every time that I picked up when you called
And a crisp new Benjamin for when you're here then gone again
And a dollar every time I was right about you after all

Boy I'd be rich, head to toe Prada
Benz in the driveway, yacht in the water
Vegas at the Mandarin, high roller gambling
Me and Diddy drippin' diamonds like Marilyn
No I wouldn't be drowning in all your IOU's
Every promise you made me would have some real value
'Cause all the little lies rolling off your lips
Is money falling from the sky (ka-ching, ka-ching)
    Shit I'd be rich
    La la la di da
    I'd be rich
    La la la di da

If I had a dime every time that you crossed my mind
Well I'd basically be sitting on a big ass pile of dimes
And all the times that you make my heart feel cheap
I might as well have won the lottery
All of this pain and me cursing your name would just turn into dollar signs

'Cause I'd be rich, head to toe Prada
Benz in the driveway, yacht in the water
Vegas at the Mandarin, high roller gambling
Me and Diddy drippin' diamonds like Marilyn
No I wouldn't be drowning in all your IOU's

    Shit I'd be rich
    La-a-a-a-a-di-da
    I'd be rich
    La-a-a-a-a-di-da

Told myself I wouldn't do this again
But how much you wanna bet I'mma do this again?

    Rich, head to toe Prada

    11-Heaven.

    The truth runs wild
Like a tear down a cheek
Trying to save face, and daddy heart break
    I'm lying through my teeth

    This voice inside
    Has been eating at me
Trying to replace the love that I fake
    With what we both need

    The truth runs wild
    Like kids on concrete
Trying to sedate my mind in its cage
    And numb what I see

    Awake, wide eyed
    I'm screaming at me
Trying to keep faith and picture his face
    Staring up at me

Without losing a piece of me
How do I get to heaven?
Without changing a part of me
How do I get to heaven?
    All my time is wasted
Feeling like my heart's mistaken, oh
So if I'm losing a piece of me
    Maybe I don't want heaven?

    The truth runs wild
Like the rain to the sea
Trying to set straight the lines that I trace
    To find some relief
    This voice inside
    Has been eating at me

Trying to embrace the picture I paint
    And colour me free

Without losing a piece of me
How do I get to heaven?
Without changing a part of me
How do I get to heaven?
    All my time is wasted
Feeling like my heart's mistaken, oh
So if I'm losing a piece of me
    Maybe I don't want heaven?

    So I'm counting to fifteen
Counting to fifteen, counting to fifteen
    So I'm counting to fifteen
Counting to fifteen, counting to fifteen
    So I'm counting to fifteen
Counting to fifteen, counting to fifteen
    So I'm counting to fifteen
Counting to fifteen, counting to fifteen

Without losing a piece of me
How do I get to heaven?
Without changing a part of me
How do I get to heaven?

    10-February.

    [Verse 1]
    I said to my feet
Don’t just lay there and sleep
    Get up from that bed
Make something good of this day

And I said to my hands
    Now go make some friends
You touch the remote more than your lover

    [Chorus]
But I’m as low as low can be
And I just go home and watch TV
Wish that I could smoke some weed
But it makes me way too deep
Seems like nothing works on me
    This February

    [Verse 2]
And I said to my abs
    To my one only ab
Now go hit the gym and multiply yourself
But everything just seems so boring
We all go to work like we’re zombies
And on the subway we stand on each other's feet
On drowsy grey mornings after taking sleeping pills

    [Chorus]
But I’m as low as low can be
And I just go home and watch TV
Wish that I could smoke some weed
But it makes me way too deep
Seems like nothing works on me
    This February

    9-Cycles.

    I know you too well
Sounds like you're on your way
    The highway's on your voice
    Three exit signs away
    You know how I think
I'll play it tough and cool
Try and shut you out, like I always do

Then you knock, and you'll come in
If you come in, then you'll sit down
If you sit down, I'll pour us a drink
And if we drink, you know we'll laugh and if we laugh
We'll get close, if we get close
We'll lose our clothes, and then we'll fall back in love for a while
    We always go in cycles
    On and on in cycles

We can't be together, sure can't be apart
Every last goodbye is just another start
    You're gonna grab your things
    And walk out the door
Say the hurt is over, and that we're done for sure

Then you knock, and you'll come in
If you come in, then you'll sit down
If you sit down, I'll pour us a drink
And if we drink, you know we'll laugh and if we laugh
We'll get close, if we get close
We'll lose our clothes, and then we'll fall back in love for a while
    We always go in cycles
    On and on in cycles

    We're made for each other
Till we ain't made for each other

But then you'll knock, and you'll come in
If you come in, then you'll sit down
If you sit down, I'll pour us a drink
And if we drink, you know we'll laugh and if we laugh
We'll get close, if we get close
We'll lose our clothes, and then we'll fall back in love for a while
    We always go in cycles

(Full disclosure: the lyrics above have been modified a bit. Although what I found online seemed to be official lyrics, I noticed they differed in several places from what can be heard in the actual song so the changes I made were to reflect what I believe is actually sung. So I can't claim the above are the official lyrics but they are pretty close. Let me know what you think if you listen to it. 🙂 )

    8-Message Man.

No no no no no no
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

    The loser hides behind
    A mask of my disguise
    And who I am today
    Is worse than other times
You don't know what I've done
I'm wanted and on the run
I'm wanted and on the run
So I'm taking this moment to live in the future

    Release me from the present

    These lyrics aren't for everyone
    Only few understand

No no no no no no
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

    You don't know my brain
The way you know my name
    You don't know my heart
The way you know my face
You don't know what I've done
I'm wanted and on the run
I'm wanted and on the run

    Only few understand

    My people singing
    My people singing

Hope you're dead 'cause how could you sleep at a time like this?
People they rhyme like this, we're all impressed by this
They rip it, flip it but these are just triplets
Wrote this in three minutes, three words to a line
It's just poetry divided, I'm the kind of guy
Who takes every moment, he knows he can fight it
And music to use it, for others to use it
You're dead 'cause how could you sleep at a time like this?

Life is up here but you comment below
When the comments will always become common motivation
To promote you choose next episode
So your brain knows to keep going even though hope
Is far from this moment but you would not know it
Gets better when morning finally rears its head
Together we'll lose this, remember the future
Remember that morning is when night is dead

    Release me from the present
    I'm obsessing, all these questions
    Why I'm in denial
That they tried this suicidal session
    Please use discretion

I was at an event and without intending to, observed that most of the people there were carrying some extra weight.

Recently, someone commented out loud that someone else had lost a lot of weight. I'm sure my response was a little less common. I am hesitant to encourage weight loss without knowing the details behind it because weight loss isn't always healthy and sometimes I think our tendency to commend weight loss or associate it with looking good can be a bit dangerous.

But it's not to say losing weight is not a worthy goal. Many young children are also carrying extra weight and I think in some way, we're so used to seeing it - in others, in ourselves sometimes - that we sort of accept it to a degree. Sometimes the fight becomes too difficult and people just want to live. I understand that.

Even for myself, it is a bit of a back and forth between not wanting to focus too much on weight loss and wanting to be accepting and comfortable in my own skin, to knowing I could feel better if I did lose some of the excess. But I don't know if it should be complicated or so mind-consuming. It can be challenging though and can take effort (it's tough for me with maybe 20 pounds to lose, so I sympathize with those who have a higher excess they are struggling with).

But I believe there are simple, healthy ways to see results and I always want to move in that direction. My approach is health first. I feel weight loss can be a natural side effect of focusing on healthier choices.

@ExplorerSoul Someone I don't know very well told me recently "Oh, it looks like you lost some weight." I just said "You think so."
But later on I joked to my Sibling was that what I heard was that they thought that I was heavy before.

I probably would have preferred to just hear "You look great today." or something like that not actually referring to my weight.
And I'm not heavy or skinny really kinda in between, at least I think so.

@jadedforever Yeah, it's a bit of a delicate thing. Some people who are actively trying to lose weight might be very happy to receive such a comment, but I feel like it's a tricky thing to say to someone in general.

Feeling bloated and tight in my clothes.

In general, I don't think I'm someone who overdoes it on the sugar, but I know I've been having more sweet stuff for a while now when I want to be doing the opposite. And the last few days, I was thinking about my coffee drinks. Sometimes I'll get regular coffee (black) but when I get special coffee drinks (say, a cappuccino), I try to get it with skim milk and no sugar. I thought this was good, but I realized I've been overlooking the fact that milk has sugar in it, too. I don't have milk on its own or milk products much, except cheese in certain circumstances (rarely on its own), but I do have it in those types of coffee drinks. There are so many hidden sugars but I kind of forgot about milk. I was thinking more in terms of fat and calories and thinking skim was better in those senses.

I know that if I can eliminate sugar and flour, I will almost certainly see a difference.

This week's weigh-in showed 1.4 pounds less, but I'm not sure (it's hard to know whether it is actually fat or muscle or water. I should start using my fat monitor again). I don't think I felt or looked leaner this past week, especially during the weekend.

This week I'm trying to note down what I'm eating again, but I need to keep it in one spot instead of scribbled in random places.

@ExplorerSoul Have you ever used an online eating diary? Some decent apps out there. I used MyFitness pal in the past and it was pretty good while I remained 'in the zone'. The really good ones tell you the nutritional breakdown of what you are eating and have scanners so you can just scan the barcodes instead of having to search for everything. They can also integrate with your exercise activities.

I need to be in the right mood to use them and sometimes do sometimes don't so not preaching, just wondering if you have tried. I just got a Fitbit and think will maybe start logging food via the app so it makes me think a lot more about what I am eating.

So the things I had yesterday that probably should have been avoided:

One chocolate chip cookie, a chocolate chip muffin, 3 toffifees, some chips (two bowls).

The day before I had a hot chocolate.

I'm also having other starchy things but not counting them right now when they're part of meals. I want to avoid them, but I'm just trying to take it a step at a time.

I have never been a yoga aficionado, but there are two instructors whose videos I have liked. One was on VHS (and eventually transferred to DVD - just have to find it!), and the other instructor's videos can be found on YouTube.

I tried a few of the YouTube ones when I was exercising more regularly and I revisited one of them more recently, and it felt nice.

I think aiming to do this at least once a week is definitely achievable, and would be good for my overall fitness (building strength and flexibility, etc.) and for stress relief. I even have some new yoga pants!

I was reading a comment by someone saying they used to be addicted to lip balm because their lips were always chapped, but that once they stopped using lip balm and started drinking more water, they realized they didn't need it.

I know I show signs of dehydration and this is another reason to drink more water.

@ExplorerSoul We have a countertop water filter that works pretty well. It's a GE model you can get at Home Depot in the US. It has two filters and mounts under the skink. If you can't do that, the Pur water filters also work well.

Lately, I've been thinking about filtered water bottles, to save on space in the fridge and to be able to fill up regularly with tap water if I need to.

I'm finding it really tough to find a bottle I feel good about, though, and it's frustrating because, in the meantime, I'm barely drinking any water. Really not good.

The description for Santevia's power stick, which is meant for tap water, is:

    • Improves taste

    • Reduces chlorine

    • Adds antioxidant

    • Raises pH

I learned about charcoal sticks, too, which are kind of interesting.

    Charcoal Stick Water Filters

For those tight on space, charcoal sticks are a great alternative too. Charcoal sticks can be used in any pitcher or water bottle and remove contaminants in the same way that many pitcher water filters do.

They are reusable, last for months and can be used as a refrigerator deodorizer or in the garden when you’re done with them!

Verdict: These charcoal water filter sticks are a great eco-friendly zero-waste option for those tight on space. Ideal for couples and those just filtering water for 1-2 people.

Source: wellnessmama..com (it was an interesting article about different types of water filters).

The information available on these isn't as detailed. If I were to get one though, it would probably be through this website, which is also conscious of its packaging: https://www.lifewithoutplastic.com/store/ca/binchotan-charcoal-filter-for-bottle-small.html

While many filters address chlorine, most don't seem to address fluoride. (I just found this video, which is about ten years old but still interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=312&v=4BvOHACfalI)

I'm also concerned about other contaminants.

Was looking at this bottle, too: Eco Vessel Aqua Vessel Water Bottle (https://www.positivehealthwellness.com/diet-nutrition/best-filtered-water-bottle-need-know/)

One of the main reasons I haven't started this yet I think is that I don't feel I have a source a water I feel confident in.

I know they say tap is supposed to be as good as bottled, but I occasionally hear of different areas in the news, not so far from where I live, and how the citizens are told not to consume the water or to boil it first due to safety concerns. I have also noticed the color change in my own water at times, most likely due to work the city is doing. There is also fluoride in tap water, which I would prefer to avoid.

I would ideally like to stop using bottled water.

We have filtered water at work but it is one of those continuous systems and the bottle has never been replaced (that I've seen). I didn't feel as good about it after seeing it cleaned by hand and I also don't like that it is exposed to sunlight on a regular basis.

I would like to buy some sort of pitcher and when I think of it, this is what I did when I lived on my own.
The trouble is I live with others now and space in the fridge is limited. But if I could do this, then I could use a glass bottle I was given as a gift and start drinking more water again.

I've still been thinking about this a lot. Obviously the need is there but it's always a question of whether the sacrifice is worth it. Part of me feels it is, at least temporarily, and another part of me feels it isn't, and that even if it takes longer to reach my goal, I will have at least taken care of myself to an extent.

That said, an opportunity came up (in the area of teaching English) that interested me but the possible schedule and need for a proper work space made me hesitate to apply. I'd been considering it a lot because I felt I might enjoy it, but it seemed difficult to make work at this time. I will keep it in mind, though.

I came across a different opportunity that seemed like it could be better suited to my needs at this time, due to its flexibility and the fact that I could potentially make around the same amount as the job I mentioned earlier, but for half the hours if I was efficient. It would require more focus and attention, but I have a certain experience that could be helpful, and it would be more of a freelance position so I could accept or decline jobs presented to me.

The thing is, even if it takes longer to pay off my debt, which I can accept, it means it would also take longer to save any money. This is more difficult to think about, especially lately. Having my own place and not only this but having the means to furnish it, etc. would require money that I don't have, and until I do, this is a part of my life that is on hold.

I was learning about a couple of party plan and MLM businesses with interesting missions but neither would work for me for different reasons. But it made me think about companies making a difference.

I've been thinking about the online English tutoring the most, whether that's still a possibility and if so, how many hours I'd have to invest to make it worthwhile.

And more recently, I've been thinking about creating something to sell. Something simple that I've been looking for but that I haven't quite found (style-wise). I'm not sure how much making something like this could cost, whether I could actually make a profit and whether there would be enough people interested, but I feel like it would be interesting to do. I have to do more research because I'm not sure how to start.

I feel like it would be nice to get a few things before the new year and before I start a no spend month, if I do, and I thought it would be nice to buy myself something since I didn't participate in gifts this Christmas, but the truth is I can't really afford it. Some of these things are wants, definitely, and others I feel are kind of needed and would be useful. But I feel like I have to put them off.

I need more rest, and keep saying I want to get to bed earlier but it is a challenge.

I often feel there is already little time left in the day by the time I get home from work. To add to that, nighttime is when it feels calm, when I can just relax without disturbance and maybe I am trying to make it last so I end up staying up later than I should. On days off, I sometimes feel like I am just passing time during the day, waiting for evening to arrive.

Not getting enough sleep surely has an effect on my energy level and productivity throughout the day.

Need to make a plan for this.

I decided to put this on hold until the fall so I could enjoy some sandal time.

During my pedicure (it's always a little embarrassing for me initially), the lady mentioned a product from her country (Vietnam) that might help. It wasn't expensive so I decided to buy it, though I could have waited considering I won't be doing this right away. They told me it needed to be applied twice a day and gave me a print out with instructions on soaking, too. Curious to see if it will make any difference.

I've often read that these types of treatments don't really penetrate and are not the most effective but I am giving it a go. I had also bought an antifungal spray but I'm unsure about mixing the two.

@spatz Yes, twice a day. I realized yesterday though that it isn't really meant for the nails (name and picture are a bit misleading in my opinion) but rather for the skin. I'm still a bit torn between treating it and going ahead with the pedicure so I can enjoy some sandals in summer. I started and want to continue until at least an occasion where I may have to go for the pedicure but I hate to do the treatment halfway. I would like to complete it and I believe it is four weeks.

@ExplorerSoul hope it's still useful! It can help to file the top of the nail very gently so the fluid can penetrate the top layer better - I used disposable nail files for that. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for it to work great!

@spatz Thank you. Will take an update picture once a week to track any improvement. Just trimmed the nails and tried to use the sharp tool to clean underneath a little, and with regard to the liquid penetrating, there is actually a good amount of space under the large nail so I am trying to make sure some of the liquid gets in there. The last couple of days, I have still been applying on the nail but also on the skin a bit - at the base, around the nail and on top and underneath if I can.

Going forward, I will continue with the oil (coconut oil in the AM and oregano oil in the PM) and will do a bleach soak 2-3 times per week. The claim is that

Towards the end of June, I wrote, under a different goal, how I had discovered an online faith community for women. I have been considering it more lately but what I don't think I noticed or realized when I first came across it is there is also some mentorship on Christian blogging and writing. I was intrigued.

Writing has always been an interest, but I don't see myself as having any extraordinary gift. Blogging is interesting, but I don't know that I was ever able to imagine myself doing it for a living, only because I didn't feel I had a sure subject or angle (actually, this is often what prevents me from moving forward with an article, too).
I certainly never considered Christian blogging before.

I thought maybe joining could offer tips and I could learn new things.

I remember trying to write a story when I was younger. It's possible I tried to write more than one.

In my adult years, I seemed to think more about journalistic type writing, and writing for magazines. I even thought about creating a magazine at one point. I took a little course for magazine writing as well.

I sometimes considered buying a digital recorder with the intention of eventually recording an interview with someone (of course there are many more ways to record nowadays, but there is still value in something small and portable I suppose).

I once followed a completely unrelated program in a different field, wanting to explore it more, and when I returned, feeling a little bit discouraged, one of my first thoughts was "I want to write."

I am interested in people, and in subjects that matter to them or to me. There is one person I have in mind as a subject to interview. It wouldn't be anything groundbreaking, but it could be an opportunity to dip my feet in the water and gain a certain experience (probably one that will teach me many lessons in what I could improve upon!). I wrote a couple of question ideas down, but I feel like I need more of an angle. I am a bit nervous at the thought of asking this person to do this for me when I am no official writer and there is no guarantee that anything would become of it. But I suppose I could tell them I am practicing and would like to try to submit it to a magazine.

    Gotta work on the angle.

I went back and an employee I was hoping to see asked me to give her my thermos. I asked if it was possible to use it directly and she said yes. It seemed like she did. I told her later I was confused because someone else had told me it was too big. She didn't know why they said that. When I asked if it fit, she said yes.

So I was able to enjoy my drink this time, knowing I didn't waste a disposable cup. I do feel like I will have to specify it whenever I go and it is someone else though, but at least I know it can be done.

I felt discouraged today. I brought my thermos to a fast food restaurant, as I've done before, and the girl told me it was too big to fit so they would use a regular cup and pour it into mine after. I said the whole point was not to waste a cup, but I also felt hypocritical saying it because I was creating waste with the rest of my order. But it made me wonder if they had been doing this the whole time. I really thought in most cases they were using my thermos directly. I know they did at Starbucks.

@rainbowssparks I think it's just unclear at this point whether or not it can be used directly at this place. I will have to find out. And it is definitely a win whenever it can be used but if I know certain places can't accommodate, it could have an impact on whether I continue to buy drinks there or not. I don't usually have my thermos with me at all times. I typically bring it with me when my intention is to get a drink and I've come to expect it is doable, or if it is the first time at a particular place, to ask if it can be done.

I haven't been focusing on this goal as much as I would like to but I think I am doing some of the things, which is a start.

For example, for Day 2, I do have a reusable bottle. Once I figure things out about the filter, I will be using it. My goal is not only to drink more water but to eliminate the plastic bottles.

I've been working on Day 3's suggestion through my goals of eating healthier and spending less. I do realize that by reducing fast food, I am also reducing my waste which is a bonus.

I've probably been best with the idea from Day 5, due to a combination of a new thermos and trying to spend less.

The idea for Day 8 is not a problem until I resort to fast food. When I bring a lunch, I bring my cutlery.
I have to work on not accepting plastic utensils from places. I often don't think about it until later and it is often automatic on their end.

There are others but Day 1 & 6 are next on my mind and list, and the one I really want to work on is Day 4.

@aenea Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I wonder if there is just somehow more of a distance between this value and the results. The difference we are making isn't as easy to see or track.

I do feel good when I use my thermos, though. I feel like I'm reducing my one-time-use cups and saving money, too. I think gradually, all of these changes will add up and be felt, despite how easy it can be to feel powerless in the face of all the changes still to be made for our environment. At least I will know I have or am doing my part.

I'm still far from where I'd like to be, but I hope my lifestyle will eventually reflect my values more, and I hope that for you, too. : )

11-I learned the following interesting things about bees:

    Beeswax
At a certain age, glands on the underside of worker bees' bellies begin to produce wax flakes. They use this wax to build new cells and to cap the ones storing ripened honey. Wax making takes a lot of energy. Bees need to eat 8 kg of honey to produce just 1 kg of beeswax.

(I couldn't even remember if I knew that bees eat honey, too!)

    Bee Dance
Field bees use the "waggle dance" in particular. When they find a great source of nectar, they perform the dance back at the hive to tell other bees where to find the flowers. The dance shows the direction of the flowers relative to the sun, and the bees automatically adjust the dance according to the changing position of the sun in the sky. The speed of the dance indicates how far the nectar is from the hive. (Another dance mentioned below)

    Transfer of nectar
The foraging bee transfers the nectar it has collected to a working bee in the hive.
If there are not enough worker bees on hand to take in the nectar from foraging bees, they will perform a special dance, called the "tremble dance," to encourage other worker bees to help out with this job.

Bees A Honey of an Idea
The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum in Ottawa developed Bees A Honey of an Idea, a bilingual virtual exhibition on beekeeping. This exhibition’s main purpose is to inform Canadians on the importance of beekeeping in the production of many crops. It informs visitors on the role of honey bees in pollination and has them realize that the production of honey and other bee-hive products are minor compare to the economic impact of honeybee pollination of crops. Other objectives of this virtual exhibition are to inform Canadians on the development of science and technology in beekeeping, to help Canadians feel more comfortable around honeybees, to pique their interest on honeybees and beekeeping, to help Canadians understand pollination and to emphasize the central role that agriculture continues to play in the Canadian economy.

9-Today I learned that coconut oil is high in saturated fat. Thinking about it now, I feel like I might have heard this before.

I was thinking about buying a small jar to use coconut oil in the latte I am planning to make because I remembered that in the other recipe I tried, they said the coconut oil helps create the foam. In my mind I was also thinking it would be a healthy fat addition, but when I turned the bottle around and noticed the calories and saturated fat content, it was reason enough to skip it.

This goal was added after I had written an entry for all of my other goals.

Making a difference was always something that mattered to me growing up but at a certain point in recent memory, I realized it wasn't as obvious anymore.

Somewhere along the way, it stopped standing out in my mind. I didn't feel that same desire or passion. It was just lost, or forgotten, or not at the forefront as much.

Earlier this week I was talking to a friend about how some interests we have just seem to be innate. We don't always know the reason why something draws us in or intrigues us, but it does.

I thought about a group/culture I have always been drawn towards, and I also thought about one of the causes that I could see myself becoming involved with if I were to volunteer for example.

But for the first time, I made a link between the two - one I'm not sure I had necessarily made before.

I know this is all a bit vague, but I'm a little cautious about what I share on the site sometimes and these are really just thoughts I wanted to get down on paper, so to speak.

I was told that some of my goals seemed vague and maybe needed to be more quantitative.

I have to agree that several could stand to be more specific. Some of my goals are larger and more long-term while some are more general, and I think they could be broken down into more measurable sub-goals.

    Creating S.M.A.R.T. Goals

    Specific

    Measurable

    Attainable

    Realistic

    Timely

Specific: A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. To set a specific goal you must answer the six “W” questions:

    Who: Who is involved?

What: What do I want to accomplish?

    Where: Identify a location.

    When: Establish a time frame.

    Which: Identify requirements and constraints.

Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.

EXAMPLE: A general goal would be, “Get in shape.” But a specific goal would say, “Join a health club and workout 3 days a week.”

Measurable - Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set.

When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal.

To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as……

    How much? How many?

How will I know when it is accomplished?

Attainable – When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop the attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them. You begin seeing previously overlooked opportunities to bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goals.

You can attain most any goal you set when you plan your steps wisely and establish a time frame that allows you to carry out those steps. Goals that may have seemed far away and out of reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match them. When you list your goals you build your self-image. You see yourself as worthy of these goals, and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess them.

Realistic- To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. A goal can be both high and realistic; you are the only one who can decide just how high your goal should be. But be sure that every goal represents substantial progress.

A high goal is frequently easier to reach than a low one because a low goal exerts low motivational force. Some of the hardest jobs you ever accomplished actually seem easy simply because they were a labor of love.

Timely – A goal should be grounded within a time frame. With no time frame tied to it there’s no sense of urgency. If you want to lose 10 lbs, when do you want to lose it by? “Someday” won’t work. But if you anchor it within a timeframe, “by May 1st”, then you’ve set your unconscious mind into motion to begin working on the goal.
Your goal is probably realistic if you truly believe that it can be accomplished. Additional ways to know if your goal is realistic is to determine if you have accomplished anything similar in the past or ask yourself what conditions would have to exist to accomplish this goal.

T can also stand for Tangible – A goal is tangible when you can experience it with one of the senses, that is, taste, touch, smell, sight or hearing.

When your goal is tangible you have a better chance of making it specific and measurable and thus attainable.

I was at the store and they had different coffee alternatives. I was surprised to see Teeccino, but it wasn't instant and right now I don't have a dripper or something to use for this type of grind. There was a decaf instant coffee, but I've read that with decaf, it's good to get one with the Swiss water process and this one didn't give any indication of that. But I thought, why not just get a good decaf coffee, but again, I would need a coffee dripper or something similar.

I still wasn't sure about the Teeccino. I wondered about the grain factor and wondered about the calories as opposed to regular coffee. Mainly I wondered if it was a healthier choice.

The Teeccino French Roast has carob, barley, chicory root, ramón seeds and other natural flavors.

I came across something similar that had beet root, which I thought was interesting, but again the grind was fine so it wasn't an instant type drink.

There was another option though and the ingredients were similar but there were also some differences.
    https://www.avogel.ca/en/health-food/bambu.php?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-N_OzYXq2AIVBB1pCh0UGAuoEAYYASABEgJsNPD_BwE

It has rye, chicory, barley, malted barley, figs and acorns. Acorns were the most intriguing ingredient to me. Since getting home, I've been doing a bit more research. The Bambu product is described as: Ideal for people suffering from nervousness or sleeplessness. Not sure if this is because it is caffeine-free. Somewhere else, they referred to the chicory and figs as being easy on the stomach, heart and nerves.

On their website, under the acorns ingredient, it says 'rich in tannins.' I had to look this up, too. The thing I am wondering now is whether this drink is acidic.

Something that worried me a bit (source: Wikipedia): Many insects, birds, and mammals metabolize tannins with fewer ill effects than do humans. Species of acorn that contain large amounts of tannins are very bitter, astringent, and potentially irritating if eaten raw. This is particularly true of the acorns of American red oaks and English oaks.

Yet apparently they were a source of food for many cultures throughout history and were used as a coffee substitute when coffee was unavailable or rationed.

The Bambu was the cheapest option of everything available and although I wasn't sure it would taste as much like coffee as some other choices, I decided to give it a try. I will try it tomorrow.

I also bought some maple syrup to add to my turmeric latte, if I decide to make it again.

I used a different mixture for the recent turmeric latte I made (below) and I can't say I enjoyed it as much as the sproutedroutes one. It wasn't so bad, but I did wish there was some sweetness. I didn't think I would need it, but it was missing for me so I'm not sure exactly what I'll do. I would probably also only use one teaspoon of the mixture and one cup of milk next time. It did help to have the mixture already prepared though. I just added it to some heated milk (in a pot). Eventually, I can try my frother as well.

Option 1: Dry Turmeric Tea Mix

    Mix:

    1/2 cup turmeric powder
    1/4 cup cinnamon powder
    2 tsp ground black pepper
    1-2 TBSP ground ginger
    1/2 tsp cayenne (optional)
To use, add 2 teaspoons of this mix to 2 cups milk of choice, warmed.

Other than time in the morning, another factor was the noise from using a blender as I live with others.

I thought about trying to blend everything the evening prior and heating it the morning of, but one thing that would be lacking is the frothiness. I came across this video though which offered another option: a handheld frother. I also liked that no sweetener was added. I'm not sure if I would include everything indicated, but I like the recipe overall.

@wordsncolor While I've had two different types of turmeric lattes several times, I haven't had a turmeric latte on a regular daily basis yet so I'll have to get back to you on that. : ) One thing I can say I notice is that it is more calming than coffee can be for me sometimes. I've had times where I've had a turmeric latte, felt fine, but still craved the coffee, caffeine taste so I got a regular latte or cappuccino afterward and I didn't feel as good afterward (less energy).

It's not always as prominent but there are times when I feel coffee increases my feeling of anxiety.

I took this Enneagram test for fun and based on my result, careers in science and technology are supposed to be good for me, which is really so far from most of the things I've contemplated in recent years. But it's funny because I was thinking recently about one of the random career paths I considered growing up (lab technician) and a comment made to me by someone the other day about how I'm a researcher. I've been told before that I'm good at researching things.

I don't know if our rhythms are made to be the same, but we often talk and hear about early birds and night owls. I think both times - early morning and late night - offer a certain peace.

I don't know if I am naturally an early bird. I don't think so. I was thinking about how, in an ideal world, my work day would maybe begin at around 11 a.m. and end at around 4 p.m. I realized that would mean a five hour day. I would probably choose to work four days, so this would mean a 20-hour week.

I don't know if this would ever be the case, unless I worked independently or for myself, and I understand it's not the reality for most, but I remember the idea that dawned on me, during a period of unemployment if I'm not mistaken: we are working to support our lifestyle.

I know having children can change things, but I think if we can learn to live more simply and with less, we can give ourselves the gift of time and have a more balanced life.

I'm not sure that the salary would be as good or better either, but it sounds like a nice organization.

Years ago, I remember thinking that I would like my eventual budget to be somewhere around $200,000 or less. Now I would be happy to spend less than $100,000 if possible - even somewhere around $50,000 or less if I could.

At a certain point, I considered the idea of an energy efficient pre-fab home.

In recent years, I have enjoyed browsing tiny houses. The original models were similar and while there were aspects I liked, there were other things I didn't as much. Now you can find so many unique designs and clever use of space.

There are many things that are appealing about tiny homes but realistically, I still don't know if I could actually live in one. I suppose it would depend on the size and it wouldn't just be me to consider if I were sharing the space.

Most recently, I have been curious about container homes. These really never appealed to me before. I think they just seemed cold and more limited somehow, but it is so interesting to see what some people have done with the space inside. They can be inexpensive to buy and they can be more solid than many other structures, which could be a factor for those living in areas where disaster could strike.

It seems that with the increase of people interested in living in smaller spaces and paying less, the regulations are becoming tighter, and I have read that it can be quite complicated due to various laws.

At this stage of my life, I don't feel that a 30-year mortgage or even a 15-year one is what I want or is in line with the lifestyle I hope to live. I don't have a clear idea what that looks like yet, but I know it involves reduced expenses and ideally a reduced carbon footprint.

Practiced some more earlier this week. Explored a few other songs but mainly practiced the two I was already working with.

I finished feeling uncertain about whether I was progressing. I wondered if there was a certain technique to help make the transitions smoother or whether it will just take time.

I might practice a bit today. I'm not sure how much longer I will have the guitar for, though.

After several days without practicing (and feeling a lot of sensitivity in my fingers in recent days), I browsed some videos online and practiced for a little while today. I found two songs that each had about four chords and that were helpful with practicing chord changes. I wasn't sure of the strumming pattern though. Either way, my rhythm was off, especially as I tried to sing along!

I do find myself wanting to practice finger picking more.

Anyway, it was enough on my fingers for today!

I loved this as it reminded me of the travelling gnome in Amelie. Whimsical was a good way to describe it.

Today I had a thought as I looked at a recent picture I had printed of myself and a family member. If a picture of myself or someone I knew was left somewhere random (preferably not where I live) with some kind of message, how long would it take for people to find out who the person in the photo is? With technology and social media these days, I bet it would be pretty quick.

The bringing people together bit is another reason I think games like 'Sneaky Cards' or 'Anywhere Connections' interest me. They just add a little bit of joy and uniqueness to people's day.

I just feel really lonely lately. And yet I also generally want to be alone.

I don't feel at ease in most areas of my life right now, literally and figuratively. I'm confused about a lot of things. I don't feel able to share my thoughts.

There are moments when I feel better, when things don't feel as heavy, when I feel more hopeful and capable, but many other times I just find myself wanting to get away. Feeling this way on my own is one thing but feeling this way in the presence of others is another.

I have a lot to be grateful for and maybe I need to try to shift my attention to focus more on those things.

I feel like I need to find some sense of purpose.

I'm thinking back to the feeling I had at the start of the year, and I don't know that I still feel that way.

But such is life. There are better periods and more difficult ones.

I've been asked the same questions by two different people recently and they touch on delicate subjects for me. They aren't unusual questions though (and I'm sure it's not the first time I've been asked), and it bothers me that I don't have clear answers.

What do I want? was something I asked myself yesterday. I realized it's not something I ask myself enough. And maybe it seems like a simple and straightforward question, but to me, it feels complicated. Later, I was reading something about God and it reminded me that it should also be about what He wants for me.

I've sometimes asked and prayed for guidance and clarity, and I have thought about what He wants before, but perhaps not as often as I should.

I know I'm scared. I want to trust, but I don't always know what is true. How do I know which thoughts to trust in myself, and how do I know when God is speaking to me?

@ExplorerSoul You pose some significant questions. Knowing what we want in life, but also wanting to follow the will of our Heavenly Father can sometimes cause us to reconsider or question our goals. We live in a secular world filled with worldly philosophies. And while I judge no one’s personal path, the worldly ideologies of man sometimes blur the path for those of us seeking to follow God. However, every person is capable of receiving spiritual guidance. It has been my experience that through daily prayer and scripture study my questions are often answered. The answer may be revealed in a scripture passage or may come by inspiration or enlightenment and while the answers may not always be immediate, they always come.

@ExplorerSoul That is the ultimate question one has to find and answer. It can dictate our path and our goals.

Maybe one way to find the answer is to ask, "What do I have in life now?" As one goes through the list we can figure out if these are the things we really want, or is there something more, something missing.

If you figure it out, let me know. I'm always interested to know what people really want.

      Good Luck.

I've been feeling a certain sense of comfort and confidence in the new year ahead. I'm not sure if it's because the end of 2017 has felt more productive or because there is more direction for what I would like to accomplish in 2018 but I just feel a sort of trust that things will work out and fall into place somehow.

I found a little gem of a place to stay not too far away. Maybe this could be a possibility sometime next year.

I've been following Rory Feek's blog for some time and was touched by his latest post "outskirts of heaven."

It is not close by, but I thought about how one day, I would like to be able to attend a service there. It seemed like the kind of place where I could feel at home.

This morning, a day after my first entry for my "Grow closer to God" goal, I was fortunate to get to tune into roughly 20 minutes of the service through Facebook live, and to read a few comments from people watching as far away as, or even further away from me and from someone who had driven from a different state to attend one of their services in person. The humility and welcoming quality present during the service were what I had envisioned.

    Maybe one day.
    🙂
